Repeats over, looking dim - The "Big Easy" in trouble, Wiederholung gelaufen, N.O. im Chaos.

Wrote my two repeat exams on Monday - SE1 had some potential, but I'll have to wait how Marian looks at things... SE2 was mental - I most certainly failed it.
While my personal little catastrophe took place so, the U.S. of A. - and New Orleans in particular were hit hard - incredibly hard by Katrina - "the pure". And Katrina acted like mother nature's pure power - not knowing poor and rich, not caring about whether human settlings were in her way. So the storm devastated the Mississippi Delta on Monday, while I went devastated for a pint with Ross and Peter...

Am Montag schrieb ich meine Wiederholungspruefungen. SE1 koennte geklappt haben, aber das kommt natuerlich letztlich darauf an, wie Marian die Dinge sieht... SE2 war absolut durchgeknallt - mit aller Wahrscheinlichkeit hab ich's verbockt.
Waehrend meine eigene kleine Katastrophe stattfand, wurden die U.S von A. und vorallem New Orleans von einer schweren Katastrophe heimgesucht - von Katrina - der "Reinen". Katrina war dann auch Naturkraft in Reinform - ohne zwischen Reich und Arm zu unterscheiden, ohne sich um menschliche Siedlungen zu kuemmern. Der Sturm verwuestete das Mississippi Delta und ich ging am Montag abend - ein ganz klein wenig verwuestet mit Ross und Peter ein Bier trinken.

Tuesday I waited for Cáit's Odyssee to be over and then we headed back to Dublin for to meet Julian, who left Ireland today, if I remember correctly. We went to a class pub in Temple Bar - the "Mezz". Good live band, great canned music afterwards til 3am. Was a great night out. Wednesday Cáit caught the bus home and I caught the train to dreamland ... I was soo tired, slept from 4pm to 5.30 am . Thursday was my first day back on the phone line ... a day that never ended - so it seemed.

Am Dienstag wartete ich dann bis Cáits Odyssee vorueber war und wir fuhren zurueck nach Dublin, um Julian zu treffen, der Irland heute (wenn ich mich recht entsinne) verlassen hat. Wir gingen in ein Pub in Temple Bar - das "Mezz". Gute live-Band, und grossartige Musik aus der Konserve danach - bis frueh um 3. Es war 'ne grossartige Nacht. Am Mittwoch nahm Cáit den Bus nach Hause und ich mir viele Muetzen Schlaf. Ich war so muede, dass ich von 16h bis 5.30 am naechsten Morgen schlief. Donnerstag war mein erster Tag an der Telefonstrippe nach den Pruefungsferien - ein Tag, der kein Ende zu nehmen schien.

Today I drove down to Booterstown - where the German Embassy is located and applied for a new passport. Traffic was mad. Meanwhile things got as bad as they can possibly get in New Orleans and surroundings. I've linked the "Dancing with Katrina" blogspot page in the title line. I so hope for the people there that they can soon start some kind of life again.

Heute fuhr ich nach Booterstown runter - zur Botschaft der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Irland, um einen neuen Reisepass zu beantragen. Der Verkehr war einfach nur verrueckt. Zwischenzeitlich stehts wirklich schlimm um New Orleans und Umgebung. Ich hab' ein Blog von dort drueben im Titel verlinkt (Tanz mit Katrina). Ich hoffe wirklich sehr, dass die Leute dort bald wieder irgendeine Form von Leben beginnen koennen.

What I don't understand, is how (especially media in Germany) can use the situation to express criticism on the Iraq War, Bush's Kyoto politics etc. - literally saying "well, they deserve it, their very own fault". This is so primitive. Disagreeing with politics is one thing ... but over there hundreds of people are dying or living in horrible conditions and this is just as bad as if it happened anywhere else in the world. For the love of god - Americans are humans just as anyone else of our species on this planet.

Was ich ueberhaupt nicht verstehen kann (und hier scheinen vorallen die deutschen Medien seltsamer Blueten zu treiben) - wie jemand die Situation im Mississippi Delta ausnutzen kann, um wiedermal alles schlechte an Amerika in Erinnerung zu rufen, und wohlmoeglich noch schadenfroh zu wirken. Mit der Politik nicht einverstanden zu sein, ist die eine Sache, aber dort drueben sterben Hunderte Leute oder leben in schrecklichen Zustaenden und das ist doch genauso schrecklich als ob es irgendwo anders in der Welt passierte. Im Himmels Willen - Amerikaner sind doch Menschen wie jeder andere auch.

Well, to cut the story short, I'm shocked and I'm looking forward to help, PayPal is going to set up a donations website. This tragedy is nothing short of what happened last christmas in Asia. The numbers are smaller, but tell this to someone who has lost loved ones, their house, their job, their town....

Naja, um's kurz zu machen - ich bin schockiert und erwarte schon die PayPal - Spendenseite. Diese Tragoedie steht dem was letztes Weihnachten passierte in nichts nach - die Opferzahl mag geringer sein, aber erzaehlt das mal jemanden, der gerade seine Familie, Haus, Job und Stadt verloren hat....
